Traditional Handicap Method

The "Traditional Handicap Method" is a golf handicap calculation method for evaluating golf skills so that golfers of differing abilities can compete on an equitable basis. While similar to the USGA Handicap System™ that was used in the United States and elsewhere before 2020, it has distinct differences that improve the fairness of the system for infrequent golfers and for golf leagues that start from scratch every year and often incorporate new members.

The Traditional Method uses the best 10 of your most recent 20 handicap differentials. It then averages the best 10 differentials and multiplies the average by 0.96 to determine your handicap. It also has a component that tracks your two best handicap differentials from formal events or tournaments (Event Scores). If the average of these two best differentials are 4 or more strokes better than you handicap, your handicap is reduced by a pre-determined value.
