Handicap Format

Handicap Manager for Excel can be used to calculate either eighteen-hole or nine-hole handicaps. However, you cannot track both eighteen and nine-hole handicaps in the same workbook. If you wish to track both eighteen and nine-hole handicaps, save separate copies of the Handicap Manager file with different names, designating one for nine-hole handicaps and one for eighteen-hole handicaps. The first time you run Handicap Manager for Excel, the Welcome dialog box will be displayed. You will need to choose between an eighteen-hole or nine-hole handicap format by selecting the appropriate option button at the bottom of the dialog box.

The 18 Hole format is the normal handicap format. It allows you to post 18 hole scores and provides an 18 hole handicap. It also allows you to post 9 hole scores, which it automatically combines into 18 holes scores. The 9 Hole format is limited and should only be used for 9 hole leagues or for other circumstances where players want only a 9 hole handicap and play 9 hole rounds almost exclusively. When using the 9 Hole format you can only post 9 hole scores.

In order to accommodate nine-hole scores while using the eighteen-hole handicap format, nine-hole scores are automatically combined with other nine-hole scores to form eighteen-hole scores. All uncombined nine-hole scores are stored in the Uncombined Nines worksheet until they are combined with another nine-hole score or until they are older than the oldest eighteen-hole score in the player's scoring record.

Nine-hole handicaps are often used by golf leagues and nine-hole golf clubs. When the nine-hole handicap format is selected only nine-hole scores can be entered into the program. All the scores will be stored in the Scores sheet and the Uncombined Nines sheet will not be displayed. The handicap cards produced when using nine-hole handicaps will have the letter "N" on the cards. Handicap Manager for Excel provides this feature automatically.
