Limited Stroke Control

In order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability (and prevent sandbagging), it is important to limit the maximum number of strokes a player can record on any one hole. To that end, when posting scores using any handicap method, you should use the guidelines in the table below for maximum holes scores based on a player's handicap. Limited Stroke Control is the downward adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability. LSC sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole depending on the player's Course Handicap. LSC is used only when a player's actual or most probable score exceeds his or her maximum number based on the tables below.

The maximum score a player can record for any hole using Limited Stroke Control is double-bogey plus any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on that hole. As an example, if your course handicap is 21 and you make a 10 on the par 4 that is the #1 handicap hole on the course, you must record double-bogey 6 plus the two handicap strokes that you would have received on the hole, so your score would be an 8. If your handicap is +2 and you pick up on the par 3 that is the #18 handicap hole, after hitting two out-of-bounds, your score would be double-bogey 5 minus the handicap stroke  you would have subtracted from your score on that hole so your score would be a 4.

A player who starts, but does not complete a hole or is conceded a stroke must record for handicap purposes the most probable score. The most probable score may not exceed the player's Limited Stroke Control limit. This most likely score should be preceded by an "X."

If a player does not play a hole or plays it other than under the Rules of Golf (except for preferred lies), the score recorded for that hole for handicap purposes must be par plus any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on that hole. This hole score, when recorded, should be preceded by an "X."
