Networking
There are several options for providing networked or shared access to Investment Tracker for Excel. The complete Investment Tracker for Excel program and data is stored in a single Excel file. However, the Investment Tracker file must be shared in a way that it can be opened with a full version of Microsoft Excel. It will not work with Google Sheets or Excel Web. In addition, you cannot use Excel's shared workbook feature to share the file as that disables most of the program functionality. Anyone opening the file would need to have a full version of Excel. Only one user can have the Investment Tracker file open in edit mode at any one time, although subsequent users will be able to open it in read-only mode, or wait until the first user closes it to open the file in edit mode.
If you would like to provide shared access to your Investment Tracker file, we recommend using a file server or a file sharing service like OneDrive or Dropbox to store the file. Considering that the file may contain sensitive information, you may want to consider password protecting it. You can use Excel's Save As options as follows. With your Investment Tracker file open, click File - Save As on the Excel menu, then click the "more options" link. This will bring up Excel's Save As dialog box. Beside the Save button, click the Tools drop-down and select General Options. You will be able to enter a password to either open the file, modify the file, or both. Once you've entered your password(s), click OK. It is critical that you remember the password(s) because without them you will not be able to open or modify your file. There used to be work arounds for hacking into password protected Excel files but I don't believe that's possible with newer versions of Excel.
