Getting Started Quickly
Investment Tracker for Excel is easy to use and just requires a few steps to get started. You can display a Getting Started Quickly guide by clicking on the Quick Help tool in the Investment Utilities section of the Investments menu tab. You can park the guide on your computer screen so you can refer to it while using the program.
The entire Investment Tracker for Excel program functions from the tools included on the Investment menu tab that is added to the standard Excel menu. Use the New Account tool to add your Investment Accounts. The easiest way to add assets to your new account worksheet is to download a CSV or Excel file from your financial institution with asset positions or transactions. (See the Download Files topic for detailed instructions on how to download the files.) Use the Update Account tool to load the information from the file into your New Account worksheet. You can also add stocks, ETFs or mutual funds manually by using the Add Asset tool.
If the program does not recognize your stock, ETF, or mutual fund
symbol, right-click on the
asset name and select Data Type - Change and type the asset symbol into
the Data Selector
field and hit Enter. It will display of list of potential matches. Just
select the one that descirbes
your asset. Unless you live outside the United States, always pick the
XNYS (New York Stock
Exchange) or XNAS (Nasdaq Stock Exchange) for the exchange options. For
some foreign
company stocks, you may need to select the OTCM (OTC Market Group)
option.
Don't worry if you make a mistake, you can use the other tools in the program to changes assets or update share quantites easily. You can also enter share quantities directly into the Shares column in the Account sheet tables.
Once you've setup your accounts with their assets, use the Refresh Dashboard tool to create a summary of all your accounts on the Dashboard sheet. For additional details on all the program functions, click the links below or use the index of topics on the left side of this page.
