Course Handicap

A "Course Handicap" is the number of handicap strokes a player receives from a specific set of tees at the course being played to adjust their scoring ability to the difficulty of the golf course. The adjustment is based on the Slope Rating for the course and set of tees being played and, depending on which handicap calculation option you select, may also incorporate the course rating and par.

If you are using the Traditional or Score Average handicap method, the Course Handicap is determined by multiplying a player's Handicap Index by the Slope Rating of the course played and then dividing by 113. The resulting figure is rounded off to the nearest whole number (.5 or more is rounded upward).

If you are using the Global handicap method, the Course Handicap is determined by multiplying a player's Handicap Index by the Slope Rating of the course played and then dividing by 113. Then you subtract par from the course rating and add that amount to the previous result. The resulting figure is rounded off to the nearest whole number (.5 or more is rounded upward). If you are using the Custom handicap method, you can choose either option for determining the Course Handicap.

There is also a setting in the Program Options that allows you to change the Course Handicap calculation to make it compatible with the Golf Australia Daily Handicap. This setting is specifically for our users in Australia and other countries that come under the jurisdiction of Golf Australia. It will result in Course Handicaps being a stroke or two lower for higher handicap golfers. Here are the Course Handicap and Daily Handicap calculation formulas.

USGA: Course Handicap = Handicap Index x (SlopeRating ÷ 113) + (CourseRating - Par)

Golf Australia: Daily Handicap = ((GA Handicap x Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Scratch Rating - Par)) x 0.93 x Consistency Factor (Men-0.9986 Women-1.0483)
